General Rules & Eligibility
Eligibility – Participants must be between the ages of 5 to 17. Participants must be active members of a martial art school. Unaffiliated applicants will not be recognized.
Uniform – Participants must wear a uniform representative of their school. Uniforms must be clean, free of damage, and traditional in nature. Uniforms may be an alternative color to white. Participants with long hair must have it up as to not obscure the face. Participants may not wear jewelry, watches, or head covering (unless religious in nature).
Respect – All participants, coaches, and leaders are asked to respect the hosting facility. Refrain from bringing in outside food and drinks into the event hall. Every minute we are on site we are exhibiting the 5 Tenants of Taekwondo (Courtesy, Integrity, Indomitable Spirit, Perseverance, Self Control) Failure to respect the facility or other participants and guests may result in disqualification.
Point Sparring
1. Matches and Rounds:
There will be 2 rounds of 1 minute each, with 30 second breaks in between for each match. If it’s tied after 2 rounds, they go to a sudden death.
2. Scoring:
Reverse Punch to the torso: 1 point
Kick to the torso: 2 points
Spinning kick to the torso: 3 points
3. Legal Target Areas:
Torso (front and sides)
4. Illegal Target Areas and Moves:
Head/ Face, Hitting below the belt, Attacking the back,
Punching the face, Sweeping or grabbing, Pushing (excessively)
5. Penalties:
Common penalties include: falling down, stepping out of bounds, grabbing, pushing, and avoiding the fight.
6. Disqualifications
Unsportsmanlike behavior to include: taunting, vulgar language and gestures, and attacking an opponent while not engaged.
7. Winning the Match:
By points (after 3 rounds)
By referee (injury or if one fighter is clearly superior)
Golden point (sudden death overtime)
No appeals process. The judgment on the floor stands.
8. Equipment:
Mandatory gear includes: headgear, chest protector, forearm guards, shin guards, mouthguard, groin guard.
9. Competition Format:
Students will be bracketed together by age and rank in groups of 4-8 in a single elimination style format.
10. Awards:
1st Round eliminations receive no award (Quarter Final)
2nd Round eliminations receive Bronze (Semi- Final)
3rd Round elimination receive Silver (Finals)
3rd Round winner receives Gold (Finals)
Poomsae/ Forms
Performance:
A Kukkiwon approved poomsae will be performed by the participant in accordance with their belt rank.

2. Judging Criteria:
Technical Skills (4.0 points maximum):
Accuracy: correct movements, stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, etc.
Balance: stable posture, no wobbling or falling.
Breathing control: matching breath to motion.
Power and speed: appropriate energy in movements.
Presentation Skills (6.0 points maximum):
Rhythm and flow: how smooth and dynamic your movements are. Expression of energy: showing strength, confidence, spirit.
3. Scoring:
You start from 10 points and lose points for mistakes:
Small mistakes (wrong hand, slight balance loss): - 0.5 pt
Big mistakes (skipping moves, big falls): - 1.0 pt
Scores from judges are averaged.
4. Penalties / Disqualifications:
Major mistakes like forgetting the poomsae halfway, saying it wrong, or performing the wrong one can lead to disqualification.
Time limit violations (too fast or too slow) might get deductions.
5. Uniform and Etiquette:
Participants must wear a Dobok representative of their school. Uniforms must be clean with no tares or stains. Patches are acceptable. Optional under shirt must be white or black with no graphics. Head bands and jewelry are not permitted unless of a religious nature. Participant must be of good hygiene with hair neatly out of face. Start and end with a bow to the judges. Bow on and off the mat. No talking or unnecessary movements between start and finish.
6. Competition Format
Participants will be grouped together by rank and age in groups of 3-5. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 scorers in each group.
Board Breaking
1. Performance:
Students will perform 2 board breaks.
Techniques will be provided to judges prior to performance.
2. Scoring:
Participants will be judged on the difficulty of the break and execution.
Score cards will be from 1-10 in difficulty.
Each failed attempt will reduce the score by 1.
The sum of the two breaks is your score.
3. Competition Format:
Participants will be grouped together by rank and age in groups of 3-5.
Medals will be awarded to the top 3 scorers in each group.
